Where med spas and wellness clinics order supplies: the options compared (2026)

MedGrid · · 9 min read

Updated October 2026

The short answer: No single channel covers everything a med spa or wellness clinic buys. A typical setup uses a broad-line distributor for med-surg supplies, manufacturer accounts for brand-name injectables, licensed pharmacies for compounded medications, a supplement platform for patients' take-home plans, a business marketplace for the office, and a provider-only marketplace to pull specialty buying into one account. This guide maps each option, with examples described from their own websites, and shows where MedGrid, and Genesis, MedGrid's built-in AI assistant, fit.

New aesthetic and wellness practices often open a stack of supplier accounts in their first month without a plan for which does what. That's how you end up with duplicate orders, scattered invoices and nobody sure who is allowed to buy what. Here is how the main options compare, so you can choose on purpose.

1. Broad-line distributors

Henry Schein Medical describes itself as the largest provider of medical supplies, equipment and services to office-based practitioners, advertises 190,000 medical products, and its plastic surgery page speaks directly to med spas. McKesson describes McKesson Medical-Surgical as the nation's largest distributor of wholesale medical-surgical supplies and equipment, with more than 300,000 products and next-day delivery to 95% of customers, and says the business is becoming Wellverse. Medline says it has about 335,000 products in its portfolio, about 190,000 of them Medline Brand, with next-day delivery to 95% of its U.S. customers, and its business-account application asks for prescription drug or device licensing where it applies.

Use them for: gloves, syringes, gauze, exam-room and lab supplies, sharps, vaccines and equipment. Check: whether the aesthetic and wellness products you rely on are available to your account. For more, see MedGrid vs Henry Schein Medical and MedGrid vs McKesson Medical-Surgical.

2. Buying direct from aesthetic manufacturers

For brand-name injectables, many practices open accounts with the manufacturers themselves:

  • Allergan Aesthetics takes orders online in Allergan Direct through Allergan Advantage, or by phone. Its getting-started page asks for the medical director's name and NPI or state license number, says its credentialing team validates each application, and puts the process at 4-5 business days. Its BOTOX® Cosmetic site tells practices to order from Allergan Aesthetics or an authorized distributor, and says that is the only way to ensure you have the genuine product.
  • Galderma points practices to its sales team and to ASPIRE Galderma Practice Rewards, which it says earns preferred pricing for the practice and savings to extend to patients.
  • Merz Aesthetics runs a provider portal and the Merz Advantage Program, which it says gives access to combination pricing programs and lets patients redeem Xperience+ loyalty points.
  • Revance describes its customer portal as a single destination to manage your profile and place product orders.
  • Evolus runs Evolux, which it calls its practice loyalty program for aesthetics providers, available to licensed providers and accounts purchasing vials in the U.S.

Use them for: the brands your injectors use most, and the loyalty programs patients ask about. Check: that every neuromodulator and filler comes from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor. Our guide to buying Botox wholesale safely covers the red flags.

3. Compounding pharmacies and outsourcing facilities

Empower Pharmacy says it runs a 503A compounding pharmacy, with a partner company registered with FDA as a 503B outsourcing facility, and that account setup starts with a clinic liaison; Empower Pharmacy is coming soon to MedGrid. Olympia Pharmacy describes itself as a full-service 503B- and 503A-compliant pharmacy and says it is licensed in 49 states. Each pharmacy has its own qualification steps, ordering routes and shipping rules.

Use them for: compounded medications, either patient-specific on a prescription (503A) or office stock from a registered outsourcing facility (503B). Check: the lane and the pharmacy's licences; see 503A or 503B? and ordering direct vs through MedGrid.

4. Supplement platforms

Fullscript says accounts are free for providers and their patients, offers patient dispensing and wholesale supplements for in-office dispensing, and its help center says Rx-only products aren't available there. Emerson Ecologics now describes itself as a Fullscript company. WholeScripts says practitioners can open a dispensary so patients can order the products they recommend, with repeat deliveries through AutoShip.

Use them for: take-home supplement plans and supplement stock. Check: how margins and patient discounts work. More in MedGrid vs Fullscript.

5. Business marketplaces

Amazon Business offers a free account, buying policies, spend limits and approvals, and a Professional Healthcare program for professional-use and prescription medical devices. Walmart Business advertises restocking in store or online and paying on net 30-day terms through Pay By Invoice.

Use them for: the front desk, cleaning, breakroom and general consumables. Check: who the seller is for anything clinical. See MedGrid vs Amazon Business.

6. Provider-only medical marketplaces

These put many medical vendors behind one account that only licensed buyers can open. Pipeline Medical describes itself as a provider-only marketplace that also acts as a GPO, distributor and material manager, lists medical spa among the specialties it serves, and says full access to its pricing and catalog comes after a regulatory waiting period of 30 to 45 days.

MedGrid is the platform doctors use to run the buying side of their practice, with Genesis, MedGrid's built-in AI assistant, helping along the way (see what Genesis can and can't do):

  • Genesis answers "where is my order", "what is in my cart" and "what am I due to reorder" from your own account, explains what an order is waiting on, and prepares a reorder or a hand-off to checkout that you confirm. It never places, pays for or transmits an order on its own.
  • Verified on both sides: your NPI is checked against the NPPES registry at signup, and vendors are approved by MedGrid before they sell, with their licences shown on store pages and marked verified once checked.
  • Catalog: 2,000+ products and 200+ brands, and growing, across clinic supplies, devices, skincare, supplements, aesthetics and compounded medications.
  • Prescriptions: 503A prescriptions go to pharmacies filtered by the patient's state.
  • Price: ask for a better price on any product; an approved price applies to every order after.

Compare the two in MedGrid vs Pipeline Medical.

7. Med spa operating software

Some platforms help run the med spa itself rather than sell supplies. Moxie describes itself as all-in-one med spa software that helps practices grow revenue with marketing, launch guidance, exclusive product savings, compliance expertise and coaching, and says its suite uses OpenAI to power AI features including MAIA, its AI booking assistant. That's a different job from a supply channel, and the two can sit side by side.

A sample setup for a new med spa

  1. Medical director first. Several account applications ask for the supervising or medical director's details, so settle that before you apply. See what a med spa medical director is responsible for.
  2. Injectables: manufacturer accounts or authorized distributors for your core neuromodulator and filler brands.
  3. Compounded medications: a licensed pharmacy route for the lanes you use, with licences checked for your patients' states.
  4. Specialty and clinic supplies: one provider marketplace for skincare, devices, aesthetic consumables and supplies, to keep invoices in one place.
  5. High-volume med-surg: a broad-line distributor if your volume justifies it.
  6. The office: a business marketplace for everything non-clinical.
  7. Rules for staff: decide who may order from each account and set those permissions on day one.

Our med spa supply list covers what to stock.

How to decide: questions to ask every channel

  • How do you verify buyers, and how long until I can order everything I need?
  • Who is the seller of record, and can I see their licences?
  • Which of my top 20 items can my account order, at what delivered price?
  • What are the minimums, shipping costs and return rules, especially for injectables and cold-chain items?
  • Who on my staff can order, and can I switch that off per person?
  • If there's an AI assistant, what data does it answer from, and does it ask before it acts?

Frequently asked questions

Where do med spas buy Botox?

Allergan's BOTOX® Cosmetic site tells practices to order from Allergan Aesthetics or an authorized distributor, and Allergan takes orders online through Allergan Direct or by phone. Whatever the brand, buy neuromodulators only from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor.

Can a med spa buy from Henry Schein or McKesson?

Henry Schein Medical's plastic surgery page speaks to med spas, and McKesson says its medical-surgical offering is available to properly licensed professionals. Eligibility and which products your account can order are set by each company, so ask them.

Can a single supplier cover everything?

Not really. Brand-name injectables, compounded medications and patient supplements each have their own channels. A provider marketplace can cover much of the rest in one account.

Do I need a medical director to open supply accounts?

Often, for clinical products. Allergan's application asks for the medical director's name and NPI or state license number. On MedGrid, a clinician without an NPI of their own can ask to order under their medical director's, which takes approval before it applies.

Does MedGrid have an AI assistant?

Yes. Genesis answers order, tracking, cart and reorder questions from your own account and prepares actions you confirm. It doesn't place orders on its own or give treatment advice.
